Briar-reno Fire Department has had a turbulent history. Moses Druxman has brought RBFD from and completely dysfunctional organization to a fully functional organization since becoming involved in the organization. He has been the RBFD Chief for four years and while i appreciate the work and dedication he has done and the dedication the fire fighters have to the Reno-Briar community, dedication is not enough to create a financially viable, stable and tust worthy organization long term. Reno-Brair is not funded well enoght to support two fire stations. It only has enough funding for the Briar staion to provide adequate fire protection. By taking on Reno and its minimal tax base it is hobbling the level of fire protection via funding, manpower, reserve funding, reserve trucks, etc. that it should be providing to Briar with the contact providing funding from Tarrant county. They for example can only provide 2 full time fire fighters at each station at best with the funding they have. If they were just one station in Briar they could fully man that station with the minimum of 3 firefighters, be able to create reserve funding, and purchase additional trucks to replace their aging trucks. Moses Druxman is not seeing things clearly and in the process he is hurting the Reno community by not cooperating with ESD 1 to assume responsibility for Reno;s fire protection. The matter will come up on the November Ballot for the community to decide who they want to provide their fire protection.
I became interested in Emergency Service District 1 Parker County back in the 2010 time frame when i was still active duty and Lynda Stokes was Mayor. I was trying to get her to get ESD1 to take over our fire protection because at that time the station was close to being shut down completely. She refused to help me or even consider the option. which goes back to my statement that Reno has a toxic rancid culture that has a grudge with Parker County going back almost as long as Reno has existed but Lynda Stokes absolutely refused to work with the surrounding communities and Parker County. This culture is one of the primary reasons disincorporation is on the ballot. Bad blood has hurt the citizens and no one has been willing to try to build bridges. I had also sent and email to the Mayor during a more recent time, Sam white again arguing for joining ESD1. Always falling on deaf ears. So when disincorporation was looking like it was going to be on the ballot i became interested again in getting Reno to join ESD1. I even talked to Chief Druxman about this but he convinced me ESD10 Briar-Reno Fire Department was a better idea in October and so I let it go at the time. Come the first of the year my curiosity got the best of me and I called ESD1's office and started asking questions and to no surprise comparing ESD1 to BRFD is like comparing Pro football to High School football in terms of funding, reserve funding, trucks, equipment, etc, etc , etc. Chief Watson gave me a ton of information and said all i needed to do was run a petion and get 50 signatures of Reno property owners and it could be put on the ballot for all of Reno to vote on. So when BRFD was trying to get the county commissioners to approve of creating ESD10 myself and few others got a petion together in a few days with 69 singatures to get the citizens another option. Well at the hearing for ESD10 BRFD the commissioners turned down BRFD for creating ESD10 because they were not financially viable. At the same time ESD1 Chief Watson was given our 69 petitions to join ESD1.
So now ESD1 is slated to be potentially be put on the ballot in November 2025. I think the outcome of the disincorporation will dictate what direction this community takes not only for fire protection but obviously if we want to rely on the superior services Parker County can provide if we disincorporate. The best part will be removing all this bad blood and agenda of the pro city people and all it entails for the future. Because no one in their right mind would buy a house in Reno if they had any idea how bad this government really is.
Briar-Reno's aging fire trucks are at high risk for failure potentially leaving Reno citizens at risk for catastrophe and having to foot the bill for a million dollar replacement on short notice.
Briar-Reno Fire Department is at high risk for financial failure. They have zero margin for repairs, maintenance or replacement of aging equipment.
Eric Hunter speaking at ESD1 hearing for annexing Reno into ESD1 Parker County Emergency Services District 1 and Briar-Reno Fire Chief Moses Drumans complete disregard for the Reno Community and refusing to cooperatate with ESD1 by keeping the Reno community hostage over its community funded Fire station and assets.
